Just A Thought...

My mum and I were watching the news as we ate dinner tonight and the stories were the same as usual:
1. Six miners still trapped in a collapsed mine
2. Gas prices down
3. Milk prices up

And it made me think... all these stories are because of energy. The miners wouldn't be stuck if we didn't use coal. Gas prices wouldn't be relevant if we weren't so dependant on gas for fuel. And if we figured out a way to produce enough so that there was enough corn for fuel and food, we wouldn't worry about milk. It makes me think that the way to do the most good for people and the enviornment would be to go into science and research energy alternatives. But science has never been my thing... Could one help just as much by writing about this issue? Is it hypocritical to demand that people do something, but do nothing yourself?

Just a thought...

Yes, i think it's hypocritical. If you talk the talk, walk the walk. It's easy to do. Instead of throwing your izze can in a trash can at school, toss it in the recycle. Take a military shower once a week. Turn off the water when you brush your teeth. Recycle your newspaper. Avoid using paper plate, cups, and napkins. Unplug electronic items when they're not in use. There's a million ways! Taking simple steps now will work wonders for future generations.
And as for the making a difference thing, you'd be surprised at the many ways you can help. It doesn't even have to be a full time career. Giving a talk to an elementary school class, writing an editorial to a newspaper about preserving the environment, simply spreading the word. For you mo, writing would be a great way to do just this. As you grow older, you could write articles or even a book on this subject. LIke i said, just getting the word out.

I agree with both of you, and I don't think there's much left unsaid :).

so then, you don't think it's hypocritical, you think that writing IS doing something. You just talked yourself into a corner, Kels. lol

I meant "Is it hypocritical to demand that others research methods when I don't do the research, I just write about how we should.

But I agree with the first part, Kels.
