Last night, there was a youth group party at my church. It was a sleepover. Everybody at my church got out of school on Tuesday except for me, because I go to a charter school. Anyway, I couldn't stay for the entire thing, so I went home at around ten o'clock.
Well, I woke up and went to school like it was a normal day, like it was going to be. I should explain. At my school, the parents drive thier kids to school because we live all over the place. So when we pulled up so my mom could drop me off, I saw one of the teachers there; she was talking to the car in front of us. The car in front of us erupted with cheers, we knew something good was coming. The teacher came up to our car; Mom rolled down the window and she told us that we had no school today or tomorrow. This meant that we had no school until January 8th. Hooray!
Well, I had to go to my locker to grab some stuff, so we stayed a little while. By now, it was snowing hard. We drove home in happiness, knowing that winter break had commenced.
This left me with one idea in my head: I want to go back to the sleepover. My mom let me, and I was soon there. The leaders were already up and breakfast was ready, so they gave me the task of waking everyone up.
I went downstairs to find ten girls looking nearly dead in chairs, on the floor couch and pretty much everywhere. I turned on the light, and no one stirred. At all. So, I started talking to them. A few rolled over and opened thier eyes, a look of confusion on thier face. Some said they thought they were dreaming because I wasn't supposed to be there; I was at school. It was a pleasant surprise to find me there. I explained to the two that had thier eyes open that I had a snow day. At this, five of the girls (none of which had thier eyes open) positively leapt out of thier sleeping bags and rushed to the window, shrieking in excitement.
The last time it snowed this much was in 2003, when we got about 3 feet of snow. We were all nervous and excited about the snow. Eventually, it was time to go home, so we did.
Well, after some chatting online with friends from school about the snow day, my sister and decided that we would try sledding on the hill that is by our house. We bundled up in two shirts, a sweatshirt, a coat, running tights, jeans, snow pants, wool socks, boots, gloves, a hat and scarves and ski goggles to cover my glasses.
Lumbering up the hill, we struggled against the 50-mile wind trying to push us to the side. We tried to sled, but the wind had blown all the snow off the hill. Anyway, we struggled back down the hill, unable to see because of the snow. The snow has been blizzard force since about 7:00 am.
We got home and decided to stay at home, drink hot chocolate and blog and listen to MuggleCast. Andrew rocks!
Anyway, that's where I'm at now. Hope that if you are in the storm you're all right!
